The People

Who We Are

  • The Plensky family have been hard workers from way back when.

Our family came to Canada circa 1910 as coal miners from Poland. Our family settled on Vancouver Island by working in coal mines all over from Cumberland to Extension, down deep in the dark with a pick axe. For three generations now we’ve worked as loggers in Kyuquot, but our family are also known as excellent fishermen too. We’ve worked as both commercial and sports guide fishermen.

  • We’ve lived & worked in Kyuquot since 1968. And we’ve worked in every part of logging from stump to dump. You name it, we’ve done it. From monkey wrenching, falling, yarding, hauling, and cooking for the crews. We started off as hand loggers and then operated a float camp for a 14-person crew for stump to dump logging. We’ve also done free-lance falling, road-building, installed bridges, excavation work, watershed restoration, silviculture and heli-logging. We’ve even built our lodge using lumber hand-milled on our sawmill.

  • We understand the logistics of work in remote locations. We’ll understand all your unique crew needs for any type work contract you might have in Kyuquot. We’ve got a big skookum boat that can take your crew anywhere you need to go.

We’re also great organizers. We’re committed to your both your safety & comfort. We want you to have successful work and an amazing stay while in Kyuquot.

  • We’ve long been known as good cooks for our crews. We’ll feed your crew delicious, home made and hearty food. No worries, your crew will enjoy the best grub ever!

  • We’ve hosted all kinds of work crews from fallers, road builders, tree planters, infrastructure, construction, mining and more. We have two lodges in Kyuquot with room for 18 crew members in total. The more, the better, bring your whole crew.

  • When we’re not working, we’re outside playing. We like skiing, fishing, hunting, hiking, exploring or boating. We‘re west coast adventurers!
